Geoffrey Wasteneys is Professor of Botany at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and Canada Research Chair in Plant Cell Biology. He completed his PhD in plant cell biology at the Australian National University in 1989, held a Humboldt Fellowship at the University of Heidelberg, and was a faculty member at ANU from 1996 until moving to UBC in 2004.
His laboratory studies how plant cells proliferate, expand and differentiate, with a focus on the dynamics and organisation of cortical microtubules and their associated proteins. This work connects microtubule behaviour to cellulose synthesis, cell wall mechanics and the way plants adjust their growth in response to environmental conditions. He was Academic Director of the UBC Bioimaging Facility from 2006 to 2018.
