SUMMARY:Technological Innovation for Integrated Pest\, Pathogen and Weed Management
DESCRIPTION:In this exciting meeting we are bringing together the interests of the AAB ‘Applied Plant Pathology’ and ‘Biocontrol and IPM’ groups to explore integrated technology-based strategies for pest\, weed and pathogen management. We encourage abstract submissions from anyone working on technological innovations\, the biology/ecology of IPM projects or in policy research that explores how these strategies can be implemented. In particular we encourage submissions about how new technologies have already been implemented or have the potential to impact this area of crop protection. This hybrid event takes place in-person at the Belmont Hotel in Leicester city centre\, which is a 5 minute walk from the main train station. Leicester station is on a main North-South trainline so is within easy access from across the UK and beyond. \nEvent Website\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgramme and Invited Speakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe meeting begins in the morning of November 3rd and finishes in the afternoon of November 4th. \nWe are in the early stages of planning but are delighted to already confirm these participants: \n– Rumiana Ray (University of Nottingham) \n– Rachel Wells (John Innes Centre) \n– Sacha White (AHDB) \n– David Comont (Rothamsted Research) \n– Mark Ramsden (ADAS) \n– Lottie Alves (Nature Farming Friendly Network) \n– Neal Evans (The Voluntary Initiative) \n– Georgie Bray (RSPB) \n– Ben Magri (Syngenta) \nAbstract Submission Deadline is September 13th

SUMMARY:Sustainable Crop Nutrition: AAB President’s Meeting 2026
DESCRIPTION:VISIT EVENT WEBSITE\n17 November 2026 – 18 November 2026\nThe Guildhall York\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInorganic nutrients that are critical for crop growth\, health and productivity must be absorbed from the soil and distributed around the plant. Research over past few decades has established the fundamental mechanisms underpinning inorganic nutrient transport. \nHowever\, plant-soil interactions and regulatory processes that enable efficient absorption and distribution are only just becoming understood. This meeting will address issues of crop nutrition from a global sustainability perspective\, ranging from soil health and fertilizer use to distribution of minerals that are essential for human nutrition to edible parts of plants. \nThe AAB President’s Meeting is a biennial celebration of the research interests of the outgoing AAB President. We are delighted to organise this event on behalf of Professor Dale Sanders FRS. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInvited Speakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are delighted to confirm these invited speakers: \nTony Miller (John Innes Centre): Rank Prize Talk \nStephanie Swarbreck (Niab): Uptake of nutrients: Wheat Nitrogen Requirements (Title tbc) \nUte Kraemer (University of Bochum): Distribution of nutrients within crops (Title tbc) \nTim Mauchline (Rothamsted Research): Impact of structure and function of crop root microbiomes on nutrient cycling \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe encourage abstract submissions in the following themes\, although this is not an exhaustive list. \n– Soil-plant interactions \n– Fertilizers and the environment \n– Nutrient distribution within the plant \n– Improving nutritional quality \n– Technological advances for analysing crop-nutrient interactions \nSUBMIT an ABSTRACT

SUMMARY:Marchantia Workshop 2026
DESCRIPTION:Marchantia has become an established model in plant science\, contributing to advances in molecular genetics\, development\, physiology\, and evolutionary biology. The growing body of work has positioned Marchantia as an important system for addressing fundamental questions in land plant biology. The organizers seek to promote close communication among researchers\, encourage collaborative projects\, and support constructive scientific exchange\, all in a friendly and supportive research environment. \nThis workshop would also be useful to anyone with interest in starting Marchantia work as it provides an excellent opportunity to network and exchange ideas and resources with international members of the liverwort community. \nThe workshop will take place at the Integrated Research Center of Kobe University\, Kobe\, Japan. at the end of November. Deadline for On-site Participation & Abstract Submission is the 31st of July. Online participation available. \nName: Eduardo Flores-Sandoval \nEmail: eduardo.flores@monash.edu \nDate: 27 November 2026 \nConference Website: http://sites.google.com/view/marchantiaworkshop2026/home?authuser=0 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSource: https://sites.google.com/view/marchantiaworkshop2026/home?authuser=0

SUMMARY:Standing up for Science workshop – EU (focus) Online
DESCRIPTION:This workshop encourages Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to make their voices heard in public debates about science. \nStanding up for Science workshop – EU (focus) Online\nDate: Friday\, 27 November 2026 \nVenue: Online \nTime: 10:00 – 13:30 (CET) \nThis workshop encourages Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to make their voices heard in public debates about science. ECRs will meet scientists who have engaged with the media and policy\, learn from respected science communication professionals\, hear from policymakers on how to inform policy\, and receive support on how to talk about complex science topics. \n\nWorkshop places are free\, and they include lunch and refreshments. Unfortunately\, we cannot cover travel costs and suggest that you contact your institution if you need help with travel. \n  \nClick here to apply for a place at our Standing up for Science Workshop. \nProgramme\nSession 1: Your worries and concerns talking about research\nIn this initial group session\, we will discuss where you think public conversations around science are going wrong and why. What are the difficult conversations about research and evidence you have been involved with\, and what made them challenging? The issues you raise in this session will be tackled through the panel discussions. \nSession 2: Researchers and engagement (panel)\nA panel of researchers will share their experiences of engaging with the media and policy worlds. They will discuss why researchers should care about how evidence is used and reported on and share their advice and top tips for helping researchers work with the media and policymakers. \nPanellist information will be added closer to the event. \nSession 3: What journalists and policy makers are looking for (panel)\nA panel of journalists and policy professionals will explain how they approach reporting science\, how evidence is used in policy and what both worlds need from scientists to work effectively. \nPanellist information will be added closer to the event. \nSession 4: Support for having difficult conversations about science and research\nWe will share resources that we have developed specifically aimed at helping researchers have difficult conversations about science and evidence and which will respond to the issues raised in the opening discussion.
