SUMMARY:AAB Early Career Professional Science and Skills Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Hosted at the University of Leicester \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Association of Applied Biologists has a unique cohort of early career professional members as it includes members who work across academia\, industry\, farming and agriculture. This sets the AAB apart from other societies whose membership cohorts are more homogenous. Therefore we want to organise an event that brings together this group in order to help build cross-disciplinary linkages. We surveyed our ECP cohort and the consensus was that you would like the AAB to organise an event that mixed opportunities to present their research and to discuss skills\, careers and training. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nApplication process for Workshop Participants \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe can invite a maximum 50 in-person participants to this event\, which is open to both AAB members and non-members. We are currently searching for sponsors to support the meeting but the final registration will be no-more than £100 for the two-day event\, which includes a single night of accommodation. Delegates must be able to fund their own travel to the event. \n1.  We will ask potential attendees to apply for the workshop by telling us why it would be useful for their career. Deadline for these applications is October 15th. Applicants will be anonymously selected on both the strength of their application statement and also on their current position so that we have a mix of attendees from across sectors. Selected participants will be able to register for the meeting before November 16th. \n2. Selected participants will have the opportunity (not compulsory) to submit an abstract in order to either present a current project with a short talk or poster presentation. The deadline for abstract submission will be November 3rd. \nIn an AAB context Early Career Professionals are students and anyone within 5-years of finishing full-time education and this 5-years  is exclusive of any time spent on career-breaks\, maternity leave etc. We very much encourage applications from across sectors.
