SUMMARY:Plant Biology Education 2: Partnerships\, Learning\, Audiences and Networks for Teaching (PLANT).
DESCRIPTION:AAB are delighted to be organising a follow-up meeting to the very successful Plant Science Education meeting held in Lancaster in January 2025. We were delighted to publish a ‘Manifesto for Plant Science Education’ that resulted from discussions held within that meeting. \nAlvey et al (2025) A manifesto for plant science education https://nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ppp3.70115 \nThis event takes place in Churchill College\, Cambridge University on Tuesday April 13th-Wednesday April 14th 2027. \nThis meeting will include plenary talks\, workshops and a poster session\, all of which will allow participants to share their ideas\, successes and challenges of plant science teaching. This event has a focus on higher education teaching but we hope it will be relevant for school-teachers. Indeed we will include a session that focusses on secondary education. \nThe event will be organised as a hybrid event so hope that those people who are unable to travel to Cambridge\, can join the event online. \nAs ever we aim to keep delegates fees as low as possible as we are aware that there is often less conference-funding available for those people with a teaching-focus. \nRegistration and abstract submission will open in October 2026. Abstract submission will close on January 31st 2027. \nDepending on obtaining sponsorship we expect delegates fees will be £150 for the two day meeting\, with reduced fees for Society members (AAB\, SEB).

SUMMARY:Long Term Experiments 2027: Lessons Learnt and Future Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:VISIT EVENT WEBSITE\nWe invite you to ‘Save the Date’ for\n‘Long Term Experiments 2027: Lessons Learnt and Future Sustainability’.\nThis conference takes place in South Africa at Stellenbosch University and will include a day-visit to the Langgewens Research Farm. \nLong-term experiments (LTEs) are valuable resources to assess the sustainability  and resilience of agricultural practices and systems. \nIt is important to host this event in the Global South so as to provide more opportunities for local delegates to attend a high-profile international conference and also to highlight the crucial need for more LTEs in the Global South. \nThis conference will focus on using LTEs to meet current and future challenges in agriculture. We will explore how LTEs are advancing agronomy\, agroecology\, soil science\, crop science modelling and statistics to underpin farming systems that support nutritious diets while safeguarding our environment. \nA key conference focus will be to discuss how LTE datasets can be used to impact future farming practices. We will explore how LTEs can be redesigned so that they remain relevant in a changing climate. \nThe conference includes two days of oral presentations\,  posters and entertainment at Stellenbosch University. On the third day delegates will travel to the Langgewens Research Farm  for talks from local experts and research site tours. \nThis is the third LTE conference organised by the Association of Applied Biologists\, following successful events at Rothamsted Research in 2023 and Newcastle in 2018. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nConference Schedule\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe majority of speakers will be selected from submitted abstracts\, which represents a fantastic opportunity for early career researchers to present their work at an international conference. \nAbstract submission will open in late 2026. \nThe Scientific Organising Committee will announce invited Keynote speakers later in 2026. \nDraft List of Conference Topics: \n– Sustainability and redesign of LTEs \n– Soil health across LTEs \n– Facilitating farmer community engagements with LTEs \n– LTEs as a tool for modelling agricultural systems under global climate change \n– Maximising diverse outputs and societal value of LTEs \n– Methods for integrating LTEs with Living Labs \n– Enabling student participation and public engagement with LTEs \n– LTEs as a gold standard to develop new tools for data analysis\, data reuse and data curation \n– Lessons learnt from the global network of LTEs \n– Examine the role of LTEs in evaluating the credibility of ‘Monitoring\, Reporting and Verification (MRV)’ claims and policy
