SUMMARY:Practical Applications of ORYZA in Rice Research
DESCRIPTION:Rationale\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis training program will familiarize the participants with the functions and the data organization to run the ORYZA model\, experimental data collection for model calibration\, evaluation\, practical applications\, and introduction of new features developed in the model. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Objectives\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt the end of the training\, the participants will: \n• understand the basic operations of ORYZA; \n• identify and prepare the input files required for practical applications; \n• understand the process & concepts of parameterization\, calibration\, and evaluation; and \n• run the ORYZA model to generate outputs related to potential growth and yield\, soil carbon sequestration\, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions\, effects of           abiotic stresses\, and climate change on these variables. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nResource Persons\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe expert group developing the ORYZA model delivers this course. Participants are encouraged to discuss their interests beyond the training\, including\, but not limited to\, collaboration\, advanced development\, and model extensions for various applications.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Training Program\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrerequisites \nThe participants must bring their laptops with the following minimum specifications: \n1. The User must be an administrator of the laptop for problem-free software installation; \n2. The Operating System requirements: \na. at least Windows 8 or higher Windows version; and \nb. Microsoft Office 2007 or higher edition. \n3. Laptop specs: \na. RAM ≥ 4GB; and  \nb. free hard drive space ≥ 50GB. \nVenue\nThe ORYZA Training Program for Practical Applications will be at IRRI Headquarters in Los Baños\, Philippines. International participants are encouraged to arrive at least one day before the start of the program to adjust and recover from travel fatigue. \nLos Baños is a small city located 60 km south of Manila and may take 1.5 hours travel time\, depending on traffic conditions from Manila International Airport. We will forward travel instructions after your registration. \nAccommodation\nThe IRRI Swaminathan Hall dormitory and IRRI Guesthouse are among the available options for the accommodation of visiting participants. The rooms and buildings at the IRRI campus have Wi-Fi access points meant for business use. \nRegistration Fees and Inclusions\nThe registration fee is: \n$ 1500 for All International Participants / IRRI Country Office Participants \n• The fee covers the training materials and registration services; \n• local transportation (arrival/departure transportation between IRRI/Manila International Airport and within IRRI campus);  \n• accommodation for 6 days and 5 nights; and \n• lunch with morning and afternoon refreshments during the training. \nParticipants are responsible for their insurance coverage\, international transportation to and from Manila International Airport\, and other meals (breakfast \n and dinner). \n$ 500 for In-Country Participants /  Non-IRRI Professionals \n• The fee covers the training materials and registration services; and \n• lunch with morning and afternoon refreshments during the training. \nParticipants are responsible for their insurance coverage\, transportation to and from IRRI\, other meals (breakfast and dinner)\, and their accommodation. \n$ 360 for IRRI HQ Participants / In-Country University Students   \n• The fee covers the training materials and registration services; and \n• lunch with morning and afternoon refreshments during the training. \nParticipants are responsible for their insurance coverage\, transportation to and from IRRI\, other meals (breakfast and dinner)\, and their accommodation. \nHow to Register\nRegistrations are until the end of business day of February 7\, 2025.  \n1.
